About Us

Beech Haven Baptist Church is NOT the big, white-brick building on Atlanta Hwy in Athens.

That's just our house. It's where we gather.

Beech Haven Baptist Church instead is made up of hundreds of diverse individuals and families with one thing in common:

We have been radically changed by Jesus Christ.

And our passion is to help others know the incredible grace of Jesus and to help them discover the life He desires for them.

Indeed, this passion guides every part of our vision:

Vision Statement

No, that's not a typo.

"Great Commissionaries" is a term we've adopted which comes from Jesus' words in Matthew 28:18-20, a passage usually called "The Great Commission."

"Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Our greatest life (both on earth and in heaven) comes by following Christ. And a big part of following Him involves sharing Him with others.

Our priorities

Christlikeness - Though we're not perfect, we work hard to reflect the faith, hope and love of Jesus Christ.

Worship - Each week, we strive to give everyone, regardless of age, race, or background, the opportunity to draw near to Christ through worship.

Sunday School - One main way we build Great Commissionaries is by encouraging everyone to participate in a small-group Bible class in which we not only dig deep into the truth of scripture, we care and encourage one another through prayer, ministry, and fellowship.

Discipleship Training - In addition to Sunday School, we provide training in discipleship, spiritual growth and leadership.

Evangelism - To know Christ is to share Christ, so we provide opportunities for all members to be trained in personal evangelism and provide opportunities for mass evangelism through crusades.
